Free reference work maps 108 non-profit associations across developed and developing economies — and finds the lists the industry has been relying on are years out of date.
ROCKVILLE, Maryland — Private Capital Development today published The Global Directory of Private Capital Associations, a free reference work mapping the non-profit trade associations that represent private capital practitioners in 63 countries and customs territories across six continents.
The directory is released during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and will be published annually on the same occasion.
Its starting point was an absence. No maintained global directory of these associations exists. The most widely cited list, published by an industry body, still carries the branding of the organization it replaced in 2021 and lists associations under names retired as long ago as 2010. Regional and academic compilations cover fragments of the field. Nothing covers it whole.
Every entry was checked against the association's own website, and every web address tested, on a stated date. Where something could not be confirmed, the entry says so rather than being dropped.
Russia is excluded from the directory as a matter of firm policy — a decision about where Private Capital Development works, not a finding about any association. The directory says so in its own pages rather than leaving the absence unexplained.
"A directory that quietly drops what it cannot verify is telling you a comfortable story," said Randy Mitchell, Co-Founder of Private Capital Development. "We would rather publish an entry marked we could not confirm this than a clean-looking list that hides the gap. That is the difference between a reference work and a link collection."
The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly convenes under the theme Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.
"Restoring trust is the phrase that made us choose this week," Mitchell said. "These associations exist in Accra and Asunción and Vilnius as much as in London and New York. A reader in one of those markets should not have to guess whether the body representing their industry still exists, or what it is called this year."
Private Capital Development is rooted in thirteen years at the U.S. Department of Commerce and works across more than forty-five cities on six continents. The firm has no affiliation with the United Nations and claims none; the timing marks the occasion.
The directory is free to download and carries no paid placement. No organization has paid for inclusion or been offered placement. Every entry is drawn from the association's own public website, and any association may correct its entry at any time by contacting us; the entries, and any judgment in them, remain ours.
The final pages invite the associations themselves to correct the record — on name changes, mergers, membership terms, or entries missing altogether — with corrections accepted unconditionally and carried forward into subsequent editions.
"We got things wrong in here," Mitchell said. "We found three of them ourselves before publishing — one entry pointed at an entirely different organization. So we say so on the cover, we tell people how to fix it, and we publish a better edition next September."
The Global Directory of Private Capital Associations, Edition 1 is available at capitalmobilization.com.
Private Capital Development is a capital mobilization and brand-building firm — the strategic bridge between fund managers and the institutional investors who allocate to them. Founded on thirteen years at the U.S. Department of Commerce and operating commercially as a family enterprise since June 2018, the Maryland-based firm runs a dedicated outreach program securing meetings with global allocators on a fund manager's behalf, and hosts in-person brand programs frequently held at U.S. Embassies and Ambassadors' residences. Private Capital Development is not a placement agent; it does not sell securities and is not compensated on capital raised.
